NDIS Support for Safer Eating and Drinking

Swallowing support for:

NDIS Participants

Eating and drinking safely is essential for independence, comfort, and health. For people with disability, swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) can make mealtimes stressful and increase the risk of choking or chest infections.

At Swallowing & Dysphagia Support, we provide mobile swallowing assessments and support that are aligned with your NDIS plan and goals. Our service is designed to help participants enjoy safe, confident mealtimes at home or in supported living.

Our role is to:

  • Observe mealtimes and identify any swallowing concerns

  • Provide clear, practical recommendations for safer eating and drinking

  • Work with families, carers, and support staff so mealtimes are safe and enjoyable

  • Offer training and education for support workers to follow food texture and fluid guidelines correctly

We understand that every person’s needs and NDIS plan are unique. We adapt our approach to suit each individual’s goals, whether that’s being able to eat favourite foods more safely, increasing awareness of mealtime safety, or building carer’s confidence.

How it Works with Your NDIS Plan

  • Swallowing assessments are delivered by qualified speech pathologists

  • Services are billed under Improved Daily Living or Capacity Building

  • We work closely with your support coordinator, therapy team, and family

  • Reports and recommendations are provided for your NDIS reviews and planning

Your Swallowing Matters

The EAT-10 is a swallowing screening tool you can complete yourself. It helps highlight if swallowing problems are present and whether a full assessment is recommended.

3 or more points may indicate swallowing difficulties that should be checked.

Developed and used internationally in swallowing care.

The questionnaire takes only a few minutes to complete.

Our service helps you:

  • Reduce the risk of choking and aspiration during mealtimes

  • Make mealtimes safer, easier, and more enjoyable

  • Help you and your family understand your swallowing needs
